Fleur Birch-Atkinson- Co-Founder and Thai-Speaking Liaison
Fleur Birch-Atkinson has called Phuket Island her home since 1983, and recently returned from the United States having completed her
Bachelors degree at Smith College. Before college, she attended both the British Curriculum International School (formerly Dulwich International College)
and was a member of its first ever graduating class, as well as Phuket International School (PINS). Her attendance at both schools definitely shaped her
experience of learning fluent Thai. She learnt Thai through both a formal and informal setting and can attest that learning a second language at a young
age is a very important quality to have no matter how it is done, as long as exposure is to the fullest extent possible. She believes that one of her
strongest assets is her ability to communicate with Thai people in their own language, and is interested in making the same be true for Thais with English
speakers, as Phuket, like much of the world, is becoming an undeniably English-speaking place. As a young community member here she volunteered extensively
at the Phuket Special School for children with special needs, as well as the Phuket Safe House for youngsters in precarious household situations. As a
passionate member of this community, she is dedicated to giving back to it for the wonderful life she has been able to receive here. She strongly believes
that education is essential to furthering Thai youths chances here, and therefore Phukets future.
