About the Phuket Junior Golf Foundation
The aim of Coconut Club's exciting new initiative is to introduce a group of young children
from some of Phuket's free education schools to golf.
These children will spend between 2 to 6 hours each week learning and practicing
golf. Program Director Graham Haslam and other volunteers will get together with
a group of eager students to teach them golf. The program will also
improve their English and allow them to attain greater self esteem. The
young golfers will strive to win the end of year Golf Foundation Tournament.
How Does the Golf Foundation Help the Children?
The students at the Golf Foundation will learn how to play golf along
with so many other valuable skills. We will teach them discipline,
responsibility and commitment by asking them to sign up for a 9 month program.
The Foundation is run by an English speaking instructor and golf has many non
translated terminology so the children's English will improve. Due to the nature
of golf with its complicated scoring systems, yardage and distances to be
evaluated the students' maths will develop.
How Can I Help the Golf Foundation?
Come down and help out with the Foundation's training sessions. You don't
need to speak a word of Thai as we have Thai golf enthusiasts who are assisting
every week, nor do you have to be a golf Pro. The program that the Golf
Foundation is following is designed to be taught by non professionals and takes
the students through the basics week by week untill they are excellent little
golfers.
We always need monetary donations which can be used to cover our general costs
or sponsorship of a specific trip or activity. We also need donations of golf
balls, t-shirts and golf shoes for the students to wear on the golf course.
Phuket Junior Golf Foundation would like to take this opportunity to truly thank
the Yorkshire Hotel in Patong for its most generous donation of 40 golf clubs.
These are high quality junior clubs that are ideal for juniors to learn the
correct golf swing whilst not putting excess strain on young tendons and joints.
These are being shipped from the UK where Paul Gibson, part owner and General
Manager of the Yorkshire Hotel has previously worked as golf pro and golf club
maker. Paul, now a resident on Phuket, has been very active on the Phuket
community and runs his own charity as well as being generous with both his time
and money to the Phuket Junior Golf Foundation. A huge thank you from us
Paul, it is the great donation that will help ensure the success of our goals
Changing Childrens' Lives.
A
huge thank you also to
Asia Pacific Superyachts,
as well as
The Yamu and
Limcharoen Hughes & Glanville
who are sponsoring
a young golfer.
If you would like to help out with either your
time or a monetary donation please contact Graham Haslam on
graham@phukethasbeengoodtous.org and he will answer all
your questions about the Golf Foundation.
When does the Golf Foundation start?
We are hoping to start the program in September. Keep visiting this site
for updates; we will have player profile pages for all the children once they
have been selected. Coming soon are links to several
media articles we will be featured in as well as a Facebook and Twitter page
