Fellowships with
The Phuket Has Been Good to Us Foundation
What is a fellow?
Fellowships are usually volunteer teaching assignments, though we are willing to
discuss another type of internship within our organization. All fellows must be
fluent English speakers and will be
responsible for being available to teach English in
Kamala School, from Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm.
What does a fellow do?
Fellows typically serve as teachers in the classroom, as well as
organize and conduct
Coconut Club, our after school programs, day-trips and other opportunities
for the children to practice their conversational English outside the classroom.
This work enables the fellow to form lasting bonds with individual students and enjoy a rewarding and enriching
overall experience. Besides formal teaching hours, he or she should also be
willing to give time to lesson planning and materials preparation. There may
also be a small number of administrative responsibilities, but these will
constitute a very small proportion of the fellow's time.
What is the time commitment?
Fellows usually stay with us for a
full Thai school year. The academic year starts in May, with the first semester
running to the end of September. The second semester runs from November to
March. In October, school is not in session and you are free to travel or enjoy
life in Phuket.
Fellows should plan to arrive about a few weeks before the school year starts, in order to complete training and become familiar with
the general environment.

How do I apply?
If you would like to apply for a fellowship, please send us your resume and a 500 word statement about why you would like to work for the Foundation
and what you feel you can offer us. We will also require a police check and at least two references.
Why do I need a police check?
In the interests of protecting the
safety of the children we serve, and also in accordance with the laws of the
Kingdom of Thailand, all fellows are required to submit a police clearance check
(confirmation that the volunteer does not have a criminal record) prior to begin
working with our children.
Teaching Fellow Profile: Lynn Crevling
Volunteer Teaching Fellow 2009/2010
Lynn has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University and a BA in Sociology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York. Last year, she was a Teaching Fellow for the Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation, she teaching full time and staffing Coconut Club.
In the United States, Lynn worked for and served on the Board of Trustees for social service and arts-related non-profit organizations. She developed youth programs and curricula, wrote grants, and managed infrastructure projects and budgets. She spent six years working in the African American community and eleven years volunteering and participating in the life of the Native American community. Teaching Thai children English, Lynn says, has been the most fun and gratifying work of her career. Lynn now works as a full time English Teacher for the Foundation.
Thank You!
The Foundation will write a letter of recommendation for fellows who request it. We appreciate you taking the time
to visit our website and consider working with us. This is a wonderful cause in a beautiful place, and the children of Phuket cannot wait to meet and learn from
you! Before you go, please visit our Volunteers page to learn about some of our past volunteers. Thank you!
