Fellowships with The Phuket Has Been Good to Us Foundation

What is a fellow?
Fellowships are usually volunteer teaching assignments, though we are willing to discuss another type of internship within our organization. All fellows must be fluent English speakers and will be responsible for being available to teach English in Kamala School, from Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm.

What does a fellow do?

Fellows typically serve as teachers in the classroom, as well as organize and conduct Coconut Club, our after school programs, day-trips and other opportunities for the children to practice their conversational English outside the classroom. This work enables the fellow to form lasting bonds with individual students and enjoy a rewarding and enriching overall experience. Besides formal teaching hours, he or she should also be willing to give time to lesson planning and materials preparation. There may also be a small number of administrative responsibilities, but these will constitute a very small proportion of the fellow's time.

What is the time commitment?

Fellows usually stay with us for a full Thai school year. The academic year starts in May, with the first semester running to the end of  September. The second semester runs from November to March. In October, school is not in session and you are free to travel or enjoy life in Phuket. Fellows should plan to arrive about a few weeks before the school year starts, in order to complete training and become familiar with the general environment.

How do I apply?

If you would like to apply for a fellowship, please send us your resume and a 500 word statement about why you would like to work for the Foundation and what you feel you can offer us. We will also require a police check and at least two references.

Why do I need a police check?

In the interests of protecting the safety of the children we serve, and also in accordance with the laws of the Kingdom of Thailand, all fellows are required to submit a police clearance check (confirmation that the volunteer does not have a criminal record) prior to begin working with our children.
