Profiles of Some of Our Donors
Responsible Travellers
While on vacation in Kamala, Magdalena and Henrik Denker from Sweden, with their two children Ludvig and Estelle, visited Kamala School with goodies for the
residential children. Their generous contributions included thirty five bags of clothing, games, and toiletries, In addition to supplies for our students, the
Denkers brought the Foundation many items from our In-Kind Donation List. This included a laminating machine, which is needed to make our learning materials more
durable for long-term use. Thanks so much to the Denker family for their thoughtful contributions to Phuket's
children.
Iron Man with a Kind Heart
Local resident, Shaun Boulter, who completed the Monaco Half Iron Man triathlon in September 2007, generously decided to donate all his sponsorship money to
the Foundation. Shaun is pictured handing over his cheque for 52,300 Thai Baht to the children of Kalim school. Shaun also heads the TriBallistic Club, that runs
a series of four triathlons on Phuket Island. He has been very keen to involve children from
Kamala and Kailm schools and children from both schools begin their
training, in the run-up to the event, on 19th January 2008.
Children Helping Children
This donation to our Foundation was highlighted in the 16 June 2008 edition of the
Phuket Post:
"For anyone to raise US$700 for a school halfway around the world is an achievement. When the fundraiser is a 13-year-old child who raised the money in his own
school, it becomes a tremendous achievement. Alex Marion, from Maryland in the US, raised the money- around 23,000 baht - to help the children of Kamala, and his
family friends, the Shaws, matched his achievement, bringing the total to 45,980 baht. Both the Marion and Shaw families were in Phuket recently to hand over the
giant-sized cheque to the Phuket Has Been Good to Us Foundation, to improve the English skills of the children at
Rachaprachanukroh School. Around 150 children
in the school are orphans. The money will go towards building a play kitchen and shop, books and awards for the children. Well done, Alex. Your efforts are an
inspiration."
