Thank you for considering making a gift to the Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation. Please consider the possibilities that our Foundation has to offer to Phuket, to Thailand and beyond.
In the first few months of our existence we successfully raised enough funds to finance our pilot program for three years.
We have recently had confirmation of two major donations, which have enabled the Foundation to expand the educational program into a new school, Rachaprachanoukhror in Kamala.
Funding has also been secured to enable the Foundation to deliver a training programme for Thai teachers, about our teaching methodology. This is a partnership project, involving the Rotary Clubs of Laguna Phuket and West Shore (in Canada) and Rotary International.
Donations from private individuals, together with the Rotary Clubs partnership project have provided sufficient funding for a small print run of the Foundation’s first text book, “English Is Good For Us.” The book, which uses images familiar to local children and the vocabulary that is most useful to Phuket residents, is now being used to deliver the English curriculum to students in both schools.
Copies of the book are available to order.
A series of text books will eventually be produced for children in all primary grades. The Foundation’s text books will be used in all schools where the English program is implemented. (See our Educational Approach)
Iron Man with a Kind Heart
Local resident, Shaun Boulter, who completed the Monaco Half Iron Man triathlon in September 2007, generously decided to donate all his sponsorship money to the Foundation. Shaun is pictured handing over his cheque for 52,300 Thai Baht to the children of Kalim school.
Shaun also heads the TriBallistic Club, that runs a series of four triathlons on Phuket Island. He has been very keen to involve children from Kamala and Kailm schools and children from both schools begin their training, in the run-up to the event, on 19th January 2008.
Children Helping Children
A recent donation to our Foundation was highlighted in the 16 June edition of the Phuket Post:
"For anyone to raise US$700 for a school halfway around the world is an acheivement.
When the fundraiser is a 13-year-old child who raised the money in his own school, it becomes a tremendous acheivement.
Alex Marion, from Maryland in the US, raised the money- around 23,000 baht - to help the children of Kamala, and his family friends, the Shaws, matched his achievement, bringing the total to 45,980 baht.
Both the Marion and Shaw families were in Phuket recently to hand over the giant-sized cheque to the Phuket Has Been Good to Us Foundation, to improve the English skills of the children at Rachaprachanoukhour School.
Around 150 children in the school are ophans. The money will go towards building a play kitchen and shop, books and awards for the children.
Well done, Alex; your efforts are an inspiration."
Would You Like to Give Back?
There are many ways to ‘give back’ to the children of Phuket through the Foundation.
Our paid professional teachers are at the core of our teaching programme. We have been able to recruit skilled primary years educators, with a strong commitment to the goals of the Foundation.
Around this core, we build a teaching environment of bright, stimulating resources, such as a play kitchen and shop, which make the English classroom a pleasure for the students to be in. We use a variety of extra materials, such as flash cards, song CDs, work sheets and dictionaries, to complement the main text book.
Each of the things that go to make up our unique programme costs money, so big or small donations can be matched with something that the Foundation needs. Here are some examples of how your money can make a difference:
$21,279 puts a certificated native-speaking teacher into school for a year
$6907 enables a Thai-Speaking Teaching Assistant to be engaged for a year
OR supports a full-time native English-speaking volunteer teacher for a full twelve months
$1500 buys and stocks an interactive play kitchen
$575 takes the children on an educational visit
$500 funds an interactive play shop
$435 meets the cost of educational materials for 100 children
$175 buys arts and craft supplies for a year for 100 children
$130 buys paper and writing materials for 100 children
If there is anything else that you would like to fund, just let us know.

More funding gives us the opportunity to better resource what the Foundation is doing now and increase the quality of the programme, or to provide learning opportunities to children in entirely new schools. Our long-term goal is to administer the program in all of Phuket’s government schools, to the end of providing and entire generation of Phuket’s youth with a quality English language education.
If you or your organization would like to sponsor the implementation of our program in a specific school on the island, please let us know. If you are not located on Phuket but would like to support our project, we would be happy to apply the funds as best appropriate. Donors will receive reports of the Foundation’s progress and success.
We are extremely grateful for your consideration of this young, but dedicated foundation. For more information or if you would like to make a donation, please contact:
