The Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation:
Changing the Lives of Children
“Education is a gift that stays with you forever. You can’t sell it and nobody can take it away from you. It is the best way for us
to give back to this island that has been so good to us.”
—Tom McNamara, Founder of the Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation

As a favorite of tourists and expatriates of many nationalities from around the world, Phuket is a place where English is widely spoken.
However, on Phuket, as in most of Thailand, few Thais speak English very well. Accordingly, most high paying jobs and upper management positions
on the island are dominated by foreigners. Fewer local Thais can earn a salary to match the rising cost of living on Phuket and as a result, many leave
their home to find work in Bangkok. Among our practical goals is to help Thai youth become capable and confident English speakers so that they can secure
well-paying employment, remain close to their families on Phuket, and ultimately begin to assume the reigns of commerce and industry, as well as their
rightful claim to the inheritance of Phuket Island itself.
Our belief is that a language program that emphasizes conversation and shifts the focus away from rote memorization will allow Thai children to meet
with greater success in learning the English language. Please consider the possibilities this our charity foundation has to offer the island community of Phuket
while browsing through this website. We are extremely grateful for your consideration of our young, but dedicated foundation.
Thank you for your support.
